Would you ever choose a friend over a love interest?

In her latest podcast, Laura Sessions Stepp talks to Emily Abt about her new independent film, Toe to Toe.  One of the many themes of the film – which include race, class, and other heavy-hitting concepts – is the relationship between the two main characters and the guy who comes between them.

While I listened to the podcast, I naturally started thinking about me and my friends – whether any of them had ever thrown me over for a guy (a few) and whether I’ve ever chosen a guy over a friend (….maybe…..).  But then I started to consider the opposite idea – choosing a friend over a love interest.

Does this happen?  I imagine a lot rides on the depth of the friendship and the depth/ length of the relationship, or perhaps on what the choice is.  So, have YOU ever actually chosen a friend over a significant other?  Tell us what you think in the comments.
